iTheism | True Freethinker

Mariano wrote another brilliant essay about the nature of atheism. I think it really bears reading. Mariano wrote:

What is the problem with the self made man? That he worships his creator (man here meaning non-gender specific personage).
I have often noted that atheism, or many atheists, do not seek to be rid of God but merely replace a supernatural God with a natural one.
Indeed, two of atheism’s consoling delusions are the delusion of absolute autonomy and lack of ultimate accountability.
God states, “You shall have no other gods before me.”
The atheist states, “I shall have no other gods before me” or “I shall have no other gods besides me.”
Let us consider the concept of iTheism, then the history of iTheism and then specific examples of iTheists.

It is most definitely worth considering it with him.

  1. Marcus; I haven't read anything Marino's written that accurately describes any atheist I know. You might want to try getting the majority of your information about atheists from better sources.

  2. I however disagree. When I hear Michael Shermer and Christopher Hitchens I think what Mariano accurately reflects them even if you don't think it describes you. It does reflect you although you don't see it yourself. You reject the Bible because you think you know better. That is why I think Mariano is accurately representing you and other atheists.

  3. And by the way, Mariano is not my source for what atheists think, you and others on John Loftus' blog have more than proven him right.

  4. Well Marcus, 90% of your posts start with "Marino has a great..." so I assumed he was your main source.

  5. Ryan...that's a baseless assumption. I never said that Mariano was my primary source. I just agree with him.

  6. Actually I was making a mean spirited joke about the originality of your content. I felt bad about it until I realized you clearly didn't understand.

  7. Atheists never have any new or meaningful arguments. Why would either I or Mariano need anything new in rebuttal? Jesus completely refuted you 2000 years ago. We're just clean up.

  8. Ryan, by the way I find every comment you have ever made that I have read supremely amusing.

  9. Apparently Marino is the only one with new stuff.

  10. Ryan, maybe you will be smart enough to listen to Mariano. One can only hope.

  11. Marcus; I'll listen to some serious thinkers... Marino is not one.

  12. Ryan, you continue to show how right Mariano is in his analysis.

  13. Marcus; give me a good argument, not rhetoric or "i gotchas", that's all you and Marino seem to have thus far...

  14. Ryan, you only say that because we do got you.

  15. How so? Please substantiate your assertion*.

*the only thing an atheist or agnostic really needs to say to win an argument...

  16. Because you have no evidence or proof to back up your assumptions and your assertions. You've got nothing but shaking your fist at the one you say doesn't exist. You reject God because you want to deny your ultimate accountability to God. If I didn't feel sorry for you, I'd be laughing at you.

  17. Marcus said "You reject God because you want to deny your ultimate accountability to God."

    Please substantiate your assertion.

  18. Ryan, you prove you don't want to be accountable to God because you say the Bible is not true and refuse to submit to the standard he has set up. If I'm wrong then go to a church tomorrow and now repent of your sins and accept Christ as your Lord and savior.

  19. Marcus, you prove you don't want to be accountable to Allah because you say the Qu'ran is not true and refuse to submit to the standard Allah has set up. If I'm wrong then go to a Mosque tomorrow and now repent of your sins and submit to Allah.

  20. Ryan you are right, I don't submit to Allah, because Allah isn't the God of the Bible. What is your point? Bringing up Islam is pointless because you can't believe the Bible and the Qur'an and be consistent.

  21. Marcus; you can't believe the Old and New Testaments and be consistent.

  22. Ryan, prove the Old Testament and New Testament conflict and contradict with one another. I'm waiting.
