ID.Plus: Hawking, God and Philosophy

Here is a great blog that I'm going to begin following. I heard about it from one of Brian Auten's tweets. He has post several talks and resources from Dr. Peter Williams. They have been very useful! In this blog post Dr. Williams weighs in on the comments that have been made by Dr. Stephen Hawkings regarding the origins of the universe. I think it's counterproductive for scientists to look down on philosophers and vice versa. Its not possible to get a clear and accurate understanding of reality without science, philosophy, and theology together.

  1. So what did you personally think about Dr. Hawking’s The Grand Design?

  2. Is there a Grand Design? Yes.

Does it make sense to think that such complexity and obvious purposefulness just happened without guidance?

Nope. Sounds like an awfully untenable presupposition.

  3. Doesn't sound like you've read it. It's only 100 pages.

  4. Are you saying that Hawkings did not say that God is not needed to explain how everything came from nothing, Ryan?

  5. No, what I said was "Doesn't sound like you've read it. It's only 100 pages."

  8. You are making a presuppostion. I'd like to know what evidence you have for it. You answer my question as to what I have said that misrepresents Dr. Hawking and I'll answer your question.

  9. That's ok Marcus, I just get the sense you didn't read it, everything you've said thus far seems limited to only having read the excerpt published before the general release in the Times of London (actually, that's being generous, your comments truly seem limited to have just read the title!)

  10. AS for as I know, the book has not been published yet in its entirety. Just press announcements. I still don't see why you think the comments are limited when I asked you if the comments represented any of the information I've presented on this blog. If you have more information feel free to post a link.

  11. It was available as of 9/7.

But if you've read A Brief History of Time, so far it appears to be a rehashing of that, with the addition of the M-Theory stuff.
