Can civilization survive without God? Do watch the video. It is quite good. I have a great deal of respect for Christopher even though I pretty much disagree with most of what he has to say.
Brothers Christopher and Peter Hitchens squared off Tuesday in a debate over whether civilization can survive without God. Christopher, the older of the two, is a renowned atheist thinker and author. Peter, the lesser known of the two, is a practicing Christian and also a well-regarded author.

It's not the whole debate but it's very interesting. I disagree with a lot of what Christopher Hitchens says but at least he is consistent.

  1. It's just nitpicking, but I found it interesting that Peter compared morality to the magnetic north pole. Turns out he's correct, but not how he meant, the magnetic north pole does shift about 40 miles every year.

  2. Yes, but everything lines up with the magnetic pole as it does shift. Good to see you aren't blind to your own nitpicking. Excellent. God must be working on you.

  3. If by "everything" you mean the needle of a compass, then sure, but the further north or west you are, the more you have to compensate for true north. I say this, not because it has anything to do arguments for god, but because you seem to generally not know what you are talking about.

  4. Ryan, who said that one doesn't need to compensate for "true" north? I think you are the one who doesn't know what they are talking about? I was talking about compasses and everything that is affected by the earth's magnetic field....not navigation.
