How can a God of love orchestrate Killings in the Old Testament?

Paul Copan wrote a very interesting article about the question: How can a God of love orchestrate Killings in the Old Testament? I like most of his answer. I think the point that God gave the people of Canaan over 400 years to stop their sinning (and they knew that they were wrong) before Joshua came through is an important one. The argument that the articulation of complete destruction of Israel enemies as being hyperbole commiserate with the style of writing at the time might fly but I still feel ambivalence. I much prefer the understanding that God in His wisdom, justice, and mercy dealt with and deals with ever human being that lives, has lived, or ever will live. IT squares with the Bible and not leaving one wondering what parts of the Bible to take literally or for hyperbole. Follow the link to see Dr. Copan's article.
