George Lucas Is Now Officially Lying to Himself - Topless Robot

I don't know if you have heard this before but there is a controversy among fans of the Star Wars movies. Do you remember that scene after Luke and Ben meet Han Solo for the first time and a bounty hunter, Greedo, confronts Solo and only one of them walks away? The controversy: who shot first? The controversy started after the 1997 re-release in which Lucas makes it plain that Greedo shot first. I tend to go with 1977 version in which Solo shot first. George Lucas has apparently commented, finally!

The controversy over who shot first, Greedo or Han Solo, in Episode IV, what I did was try to clean up the confusion, but obviously it upset people because they wanted Solo to be a cold-blooded killer, but he actually isn't. It had been done in all close-ups and it was confusing about who did what to whom. I put a little wider shot in there that made it clear that Greedo is the one who shot first, but everyone wanted to think that Han shot first, because they wanted to think that he actually just gunned him down.

I don't buy it. Here is the original cut in 1977:

Now this is what it was after 1997 compared to 1977:

Sorry, Folks. Greedo shot first!

  2. Yeah, the Odyssey. Dr Joseph Campbell definitely had a point.
