For the past several years politicians and the mass media lay the blame for America's financial issues at the feet of minorities (especially black, single mothers) on public assistance. They "reason" that such people milk the system and contribute nothing. Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney are not the first to make such kinds of statements. The thing is that such statements operate on the assumption that the majority of Americans who are on welfare are Black or Latino and/or some other racial minority. There are a couple of major problems.
1. Even if all black people in the US were on welfare (and we aren't all on welfare) we are all such a small percentage (we are a minority, remember?) I doubt that it would make a huge difference.
2. A higher percentage of people in the US are on welfare are white! Take the example of food stamps.
