Iron Sharpens Iron: Harold Camping Debates Dr. James White
Well the Debate that I never thought I'd see has happened. Harold Camping (left) agreed to debate James White (right) on his teachings on the radio show Iron Sharpens Iron. They debated Tuesday and Wednesday and then had callers call to talk to Dr. White on Thursday. And then callers talked to Camping On Friday. I thought that maybe the best way to report on it to break it up by days providing links to the mp3 files and commenting on each one.
Part 1 - July 28, 2009
By far, I think that this was the best of the four days. There was real interaction and real back and forth between the two. Unfortunately for Camping, he failed to be able to defend his teachings that the Church age is over God is no longer using churches, his due date for Christ's return in May, 2011, and demonstrated that he has embraced anihilism and modalism. Camping is way more heretical than I thought he was.

Part 2 - July 29, 2009
Day 2 had no interaction between the two at all. It was almost like Camping just ignored that Dr. White was even there. Camping just presented his teaching for why he says the thing he says and ignored White's rebuttals.

Part 3 - July 30, 2009
Day 3 was where James White was alone on the show and accepting questions from listeners. I thought that questions were almost pointless - most of them. I'm surprised by the fact most of the people seemed to side against Dr. White. I was aghast. They didn't want to really throw full support to Camping but they seemed unwilling to throw him under the bus either. I kept thinking, did these people hear the same debate I did?

Part 4 - July 31, 2009
Day 4 was where Harold Camping was on Iron harpens Iron alone to answer questions that peoplehave concerning his exchange with James White. I was amazed. It was like he hadn't heard anything Dr. White had said. Instead He really just re-said everything he had said. One of the thing that stuck out at me is that he says that we can date Noah's ark to 4490 BCE, but he never explained how he go that date. Ther other problem I had that ecause he thinks that there is no church anymore. that God is no longer holding us to some of the same standards of fellowship and thinking that it is for us to know the date of Jesus' second coming. I'm concern because Camping really thinks he is right and seems to have no clue what people are saying to him when they try to correct him.

You have a very interesting blog but may I suggest with the greatest respect that you take the time to edit your posts for grammatical and spelling errors. Every post I have come across so far is littered with errors such that it becomes hard to understand what you are saying at times. I look forward to revisiting this site in the future.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I appreciate that.
ReplyDeleteTO ALL EMPLOYEES AND LISTENERS OF HAROLD CAMPING...BEWARE THAT YOU ARE LISTENING TO AND BEING LED BY A TRULY FALSE TEACHER! HISTORICALLY SPEAKING, ALL DATE SETTERS REGARDING THE RETURN OF CHRIST HAVE, OF COURSE, BEEN WRONG. NO EXCEPTIONS! BEWARE!!
ReplyDeleteI heard the interview as well.
ReplyDeleteI will not give my opinion though because I haven't read/studied the bible.
-Thanks for the topic
Harold Camping falls into that obvious category of false teachers which the New Testament is very explicit about. His views echo 19th -Century movements that were started by just a few people - always, these were people with no scholarly background in the Bible - but who claimed themselves to be prophets. Interesting, that Camping is very close to Charles Taze Russell, the fruitcake who started the Jehovah's Witnesses....and in case you don't believe me, take a look at Jehovah's Witness publications, and they now fully credit Russell with being the founder of their movement (they used to deny it, a few decades ago). Camping is in the same "camp:" denying the most important tenets of the Bible: the Trinity (God in Three Persons), the present-day Church as Christ's Body.....the Jehovah's Witnesses are also extremely antagonistic against all other churches and against Christian denominations. I refuse to call the JW's Christian, because, like Harold Camping, they are not. You cannot deny the Trinity and truly be Christian - any Bible scholar will tell you that. And Harold Camping is similar to the Witnesses in that he also has set dates for the end of the world. No self-respecting Bible scholar would ever do that, nor would any truly sane person do such a thing. It is said in Scripture that no one knows the day or hour of Christ's return, ie., the end of the world! But men like Campling, vain in their deceits, make themselves important by predicting such things. Harold Camping is a former construction worker/owner of construction company and in no way, has he been trained under the tutelage of others, to be able to make the audacious statements he's making or even to teach the Bible. Yes, he does have some things right in his teaching, but he is in error in very serious and important points. I mean, if the Church Age is over, what are we supposed to do? Close all the church buildings and sit around the radio in the evening and listen to Harold Camping? This is so positively ignorant and ridiculous that it defies even common sense. Thank you for reading my long treatise!
