So....I do not like murder. Does that mean I should not support laws
against people who think its okay in their given circumstances? I mean
if they think they have more right to live than another person, who am I
to tell them they don't have the right to do what they want? Do you
really wanna live like that? I don't and the presuppositions in this
mean undercuts the whole message of the Matrix Trilogy.
I don't like ham sandwiches. And there is biblical support for ham sandwiches being a sin. Do you support laws against ham sandwiches?
ReplyDeleteNo, ham sandwiches are not a sin. The law against pork was regarding being an Israelite, not about deserving hell. Besides there are plenty other ways to transgress God's laws that you and I are most definitely guilty of, even if you don't like pork. One sin is no better or worse than another. And breaking one commandment means you break them all. Also...equating eating pork with murder? REALLY??!
ReplyDeleteThe point is, murder = whatever it is Morphius is alluding to = false equivillancy.
ReplyDeleteDo you believe there should be civil laws against any sin and civil punishments?
No, there are not civil punishments for each and every sin. some of are laws are in fact condone and even encourage some sins. A secular-based system is unable to handle such matters correct without error. All sins lead to death and means we deserve to be destroyed because we did them. Civil punishment and legislation cannot fix it. And the graphic is not referring to those things we have civil laws against that most people agree is wrong like murder. It is referring to those things like abortion and homosexuality. It is suggesting that Christians are saying that we should make laws against things (like homosexuality for example) because we just don't like it and not because there is any real weight behind the argument against things that people want to do.
ReplyDeleteMarcus, care to show biblical evidence for civil, ceremonial and moral laws and which ate which?
ReplyDeleteSure. I would suggest the following website that follows the classification by Maimonides in the 12th century. He lists 613 laws along with their references in the Torah.
ReplyDelete613 Laws from the Torah
You can tell which commands are civil, ceremonial, moral, and some that fit under more than one heading and some don't belong to either category. If you need some more clarity about which commands belong to what category, we can discuss further. As for which commands are binding on us today - they are the commands that we can follow. I'm perfectly willing to discuss this further if more questions are being asked. I would further say that one must remember that Jesus perfectly fulfilled the laws and we haven't and we can't. That's not saying that the the Law is wrong - we are. Please re-read Galatians 3:15-22 because Paul explains what the use of the law is and how it fits in our lives today.
That's not biblical support. I guess you tried.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should define "Biblical". The link I sent you to lists all 613 commands that you can find in the Torah - which are the first 5 books of the Old Testament - in our Bible. In the space of a comment I cannot cover all 613 laws. Did you click on the link? If you want further discussion we can do that. Your question is rather vague. If this does not answer your question, please clarify. Did you read Galatians 3:15-22?
