James White Responds to Matthew Vines on Homosexuality

On his latest webcasts, James White has been responding to a lecture by Matthew Vines  on Christianity and homosexuality. Here is Mr Vines' lecture

 Dr White wrote:

Speaking of which, I am sure everyone is noticing that "he who frames the debate wins the debate" being fulfilled this very morning in the media in the US. The passing of Amendment 1 in North Carolina (don't worry, the Federal government will over-turn all these silly, backwards states over time), which affirms and defines marriage in the only logical, rational, historical, moral, ethical, biological, and, of course, Christian way, as the union of one man and one woman, is almost universally being identified as a "banning of gay marriage." Instead of the positive affirmation of serious and thoughtful morality and ethics that is rooted deeply in our history and culture, the main stream media in general has identified the amendment as anti-gay bigotry, etc., never, ever considering the deep bigotry and bias that is inherent in the homosexual movement. The issue is almost always framed in such a way as to paint the moral stance as negative and bigoted, and to put those who would resist the redefinition of marriage on the defensive. It is so obvious and yet the majority of our fellow citizens seem to ignore the reality.

  1. White is a little too fond of the "easy answer" that homosexuals can experience family if they will just "go straight", in my opinion.
For those who prefer to read a refutation of the video rather than listed to one, try:

  2. Brother,I think you misunderstood Dr. White. He wasn't saying that a homosexual can just "go straight" whenever he or she gets ready. No, Dr White was saying that a person can be freed from homosexuality through the power and regeneration of God. Why would God be able to deliver a person from drug addiction, lying, stealing, promiscuity, and all manners of evil sins except homosexuality? Of course God can and does in many situations. So, the goal isn't to tell homosexuals that they need to change but to get them and all people to surrender to Jesus and let the God who saves us, sanctify and fix us. All of us are broken and need Jesus. I'm certain that you would agree.

  3. Yes, but if you listen to Christians like Alan Chambers of Exodus International, who seems to be a fine Biblically-committed Christian guy whose main job is to help same-sex attracted Christians, you hear that most same-sex attracted Christians never entirely loose that same sex attraction. The same-sex attraction may reduce, but becoming entirely heterosexually attracted, even under long term ministry care, is quite rare.

  4. I would not agree that it's rare. It take times. But the same God that deliver from drugs, alcohol, stealing, lying, hating, and every other sin you can think of, can surely cleanses and heal any other lust that He has told us to get rid of.

    1. You clearly do not know any homosexual Christians. Homosexuality is not just 'another' sin. It goes much deeper than that.

  5. Well note that St Paul did not loose his "thorn". Perhaps God wants people to have a few challenges in life?

  6. If homosexuality is your "thorn" you don't live that lifestyle.

  7. Exactly. Desire and what you do with it are two different things.

  9. So how is homosexuality a "different" sin and where is it that scripture puts it in a different category than lying, cheating, stealing, fornication, adultery, divorce, and all the other other things we treat so lightly that God doesn't take lightly given that Jesus had to die to atone for them?
