5 Reasons God Exists | Reflections
Kenneth Samples has posted his video giving 5 reasons we know God exists. Check out his Blog. I enjoy his materials and have profited a great deal from his work.
God uniquely accounts for the univeses beginning...
No, our math fails when trying to explain the universe prior to 13.7 billion years ago. That is all we know. I don't think this guy understands what "singularity" means.
God uniquely accounts for the order, compliexity, and design evident in the universe.
I guess that depends on how you look at it.
God uniquely accounts for the reality of objective ethical values.
Can we confirm objective ethical values exist? Did Chaldeans, Ancient Romans and Aztecs share the exact objective ethical values we share now?
They are disoverd, not invented
Tell that to a baboon.
... how can objective morality be explained?
If it doesn't exist, it doesn't need to be explained.
God uniquely accounts for the enigma of man
Tell that to a chimp.
Ironic that when he show a picture of an act of "shameful and evil humanity", it was a religiously induced act.
And since genetically, we can demonstrate that Adam didn't exist...
God uniquely accounts for the claims, character, and credentials of Jesus Christ.
The historical reliablity of the assertion of a claim only shows the reliabilty of the assertion of the claim, not the validity of the claim.
He fulfilled dozens of very specific Old Testament prophecies...
Or, those that wrote about Jesus, who were intimately familiar with the Alt Testament claimed he fulfilled dozens of very specific Old Testament prophecies. Go figure.
His resurrection from the dead was proclaimed by those who were eye witnesses...
If by "proclaim" he means "attested", it most certianly was not.
I'm going to let you slide on spelling. You original comment is here unchanged with my comments in italics.

So do you deny that the universe - time and space - had a beginning? Are you saying that the universe did not come into being?
God uniquely accounts for the order, compliexity, and design evident in the universe.
I guess that depends on how you look at it.
And how do you look at it? Is there complexity, order, and design evident in the Universe?

Hey you already conceded that Sam Harris is right that there are objective moral values and duties. You can't back track now.
They are disoverd, not invented
Tell that to a baboon.
I'm going to deny the temptation to make a cruel joke at your expense (that you left yourself wide open for) and instead ask: Can you show how a baboons have objective moral values and duties
... how can objective morality be explained?
If it doesn't exist, it doesn't need to be explained.
Goes back to your "baboon" remark. If there are no objective moral values or obligation they don't need to be explained and can't be invented or discovered. You can't have it both ways. You can't say that morality has objective moral value and then pretend that you don't have to explain on what basis they exist. Whenever you are asked by what basis you can hold a moral value you say they are not objectively true. At least Sam Harris doesn't do that.
Maybe the chimp should ask the baboon. Last I checked chimps and baboons don't create art or music or mathematics or use physics and chemistry to understand how the universe functions. Chimps and baboons also don't worry about what they are or where they are going as a species far as we can tell. However Like chimps, people are capable of barbarous cruelty against each other. Do they feel guilt? Do they know what they did was wrong? They don't have the same moral values and obligations human beings have. If you disagree, I'd like to see you name some moral obligations chimps have in common with people.
Ironic that when he show a picture of an act of "shameful and evil humanity", it was a religiously induced act.
How do you know the act was religiously induced? And can you lay the blame the blame at all religions? Further if there is no objective morality what right do you have to say it was wrong?
And since genetically, we can demonstrate that Adam didn't exist...
And how do you know that? Not all scientists would agree with you on that. How do you know that is right?
God uniquely accounts for the claims, character, and credentials of Jesus Christ.
The historical reliablity of the assertion of a claim only shows the reliabilty of the assertion of the claim, not the validity of the claim.
Can you show that the claims are not valid?
He fulfilled dozens of very specific Old Testament prophecies...
Or, those that wrote about Jesus, who were intimately familiar with the Alt Testament claimed he fulfilled dozens of very specific Old Testament prophecies. Go figure.
How do you know that Jesus did not fulfill those prophecies?
His resurrection from the dead was proclaimed by those who were eye witnesses...
If by "proclaim" he means "attested", it most certianly was not.
Can you prove the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were not written Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John? Can you prove that Paul,James,Peter, and Jude did not write the epistles the church says they did? How do you know they didn't?
You have made a lot of bold claims. I'd like to see if you back them up.
It boggles my mind that someone can have two different epistemological standards. I just don't get it.
You didn't answer my questions. When it come to Morality - it's origin and purpose - you have major contradictions and I pointed them out. Instead of answering my points, you throw out a criticism and an accusation. I was so hoping that at some point you would say something and back it up.
If you were brighter, you would have seen that my comment about your epistemology covered the last five or six questions. Also, you are truly a moron if you question the religious motives behind the 9/11 hijackers.
As for the rest, I make it a general rule to only answer the same question once for a particular person. Go back and read through your blog.

ReplyDeleteYou should be consistent about if morality is objective or not.
Also, you are truly a moron if you question the religious motives behind the 9/11 hijackers.
I didn't say it wasn't I asked you substantiate it. How do you say that Muslims who say it wasn't are wrong?
