Beggars All: Reformation And Apologetics: A very interesting discussion
For years I have wondered what Word of Faith proponents believe and teach the things they do in the face of so much scripture. Also I have seen very little interaction between Word of Faith proponents and other Christians.
I think the really valuable thing that happened was their discussion centered on Reformed Theology vs Arminian theology. I think that the thought that we can shape our reality by the words we say is an outgrowth of the belief that we have to cooperate with God in our salvation. My problem with that is there is no way our human, fallible, and sinful will can trump's God's good and perfect will.

A discussion between Pastor Saiko Woods (Reformed) and Fredrick Price, Jr. (Word of Faith - Name it Claim it Prosperity Health and Wealth Heresy) I am grateful for Pastor Saiko Woods diligence and character in seeking to have a respectful discussion with a Word of Faith teacher. Fred Price, Jr. is to be commended in at least being willing to discuss the issues.

Really Bad Argument of the Day - Debunking Christianity: God May Own the Cattle on a Thousand Hills, But What He Really Wants is that Dollar In Your Wallet
I'm simply amazed that Harry McCall can simply post such irrational argument on Debunking Christianity. I mean is he just dishonest or ignorant? He needs to think more carefully. I don't know. But what I do know is that his thesis to totally wrong and he does a poor job in defending it. He is arguing that the Bible supports people who call themselves "Christians" in abusing others in the pursuit of money. There is no denying that there are people who do that, but it is against the Christian and Jewish scriptures to do so.
("For every beast of the forest is Mine, The cattle on a thousand hills.” Psalms 50: 10)
Now that is just dumb. And there is is no way to substantiate that. He tried, but let's look at what complete failure looks like.
Here a just a few:
Let's really looks at each passage and see if McCall even remotely makes a point.
"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this," says the LORD of hosts, "if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows.” Malachi 3: 10 (The Original Seed Faith Commercial)
So does this passage tells you that God needs all your money and you should give to it hurts? Nope. I wonder if McCall even knows what a "whole tithe" is. It means only 10% of your income that serves as a vehicle to teach people how to give. We don't give a tithe because God needs it...we do.
“Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury.” Mark 12: 41
I wonder if McCall even bothered to read the rest of the account. You know about the Widow giving all she had and Jesus commending her for her faith and not for the amount she gave. Jesus was concerned about her attitude and intentions not the monetary amount.
““For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away. “Throw out the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Jesus on the Parable of the Talents; Matthew 25: 29 -30) Televangelists love this verse especially when taking welfare checks!
And like such televangelist McCall misses the whole point of the parable: using the gifts (including but not exclusively money) God gives us responsibly because we are accountable to our master.
“But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land? // And as he heard these words, Ananias fell down and breathed his last; //And great fear came over the whole church, and over all who heard of these things.” (The Fate of Ananias and Sapphira; Acts 5: 1 – 16)
So was Ananias and Sapphira's sin that they didn't give all their money? No. They lied and said that they gave all of it when they hadn't because they wanted to be given the same status as Barnabas. McCall really messed up on this one. I can prove it.
3 Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? 4 Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.” - Acts 5:3-4
“The material of the wall was jasper; and the city was pure gold.” (The New Jerusalem; Revelation 21: 18)
And who supplies the gold? Not us. The gold is God's just like the cattle from Psalms 50:10. So I wonder if McCall has more examples because these 5 are no good examples.
Whether it’s the infomercials, The Door-to-Door Salesperson or the Christian Evangelist, the final goal is to sell you either a product / belief system that will remove dollars from your wallet. Thus, Christian Evangelism works just like any other sales pitch used to generate income by convincing the customer their life would be so much better if he or she accepted the truth claims made by the product peddler.
McCall is incorrect that the point of Christianity is to get money. There are some people who claim to be Christians who have that goal but that does not mean that God condones them. He does not. I wonder why McCall did not point out any of those examples, We should charge for what was given to us - the Gospel.
Believer - you want your car to move - put fuel in it. If you want your God to function, open up your wallet!
Nope. You want God to do something for you - Obey Him. And God is not begging for your money - that He gave you.
Without money (which is a prime reason for conversion of souls) the concept of God is nothing more than a non-functioning idea. (Sure, God needs your soul, but this theology goes without saying: No saved soul; no believer’s money!)
Really? Sad assertion because that is all it is.
It’s little wonder today that the richest organizations in the world are religious and here in the United States, some of the wealthiest freeloading people are religious leaders, especially televangelists.
More assertion and no back up.
Finally, if God was a piƱata hanging from Heaven on a cord; after a solid strike with a stick, he would burst open and money would pour out.
Huh? Is that really how McCall wants to sum up his "article"? Let's look at what Jesus told us about material possessions.
15 Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” - Luke 12:15

Ironically, there are far more verses in the Bible about giving God your money than giving God your soul!

FacePalm of the Day #90 - THE INTERSECTION | MADNESS & REALITY: Eddie Long Accepts a Stack of Money From Woman During Sermon (Like A Pimp!!)
This was an interesting video! I've seen the practice done in "Word of Faith" Churches. You know...churches that preach that God wants you to be rich and if you give a lot of money, God will give you 1000 fold back. Heretical? Yup. But they uses the scriptures from Acts that talk about how the first Christians sold all they had and laid the money at the Apostles feet. They miss several things. First, the Bible does not tell us that it was a command, it merely describes what happened. Second, the passage goes on tell us that the money was distributed among all the members according to need! The Apostles didn't keep the money for themselves. Fourth, Bishop Eddie Long is not an apostle like Peter, James, and John and those who first started the Church. And this is why some non-Christians don't trust churches. I wish Christianity was not judged by foolishness like this.
Here is what the Bible has to say about what the early church did.
Definitely FacePalm worthy! I would not express my feelings exactly the way Rippa did in writing the post I've linked to but I can't say I disagree with the idea that some preachers do pimp churches and it is wrong. God don't like it and Judgment starts at home. God is going to start with those who call themselves Christians. Bishop Eddie Long, this FacePalm is for you.
THE INTERSECTION | MADNESS & REALITY: Eddie Long Accepts a Stack of Money From Woman During Sermon (Like A Pimp!!)
Here is what the Bible has to say about what the early church did.
1 Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. 2 With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet.
You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”
5 When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened. 6 Then some young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him.
7 About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 Peter asked her, “Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?”
“Yes,” she said, “that is the price.”
9 Peter said to her, “How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.”
10 At that moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events. - Acts 5:1-11

Fistbump of the Day #9 - The Dunamis Word: 103rd Annual Holy Convocation ~ Great God, Good Lord...Say What???
Elder Harvey Burnett has posted some great reflections on the 103 Holy Convocation of the Church of God in Christ on his blog. I agree with him. There are definitely some problems. I love the Church of God In Christ. I've been a member my whole life. I'm greatly perturbed that people like Sharpton and Jakes are (or might) be allowed to speak during the convocation. They both teach contrary to the doctrines and theology of our church. The problems facing us are not just from Homosexuality and Gay marriage, but also from the Word of Faith false teachers, and not to mention Jakes denies the Trinity. I'm not sure if Sharpton knows what the Trinity is either. We need to pray. We need stand against anything that is against what the Bible teaches. Obeying God and staying with what God has revealed is much important!

Rich Dad Poor Dad Robert Kiyosaki
If you have ever heard of Network Marketing, Robert Kiyosaki always comes up. He wrote a book and gives presentation that many leaders in Network Marketing think is a great approach to building businesses. He explains using the lives of his father (who tried to make money in traditional capitalism - his poor dad) and the father of his best friend who was a self-made millionaire through building his own business and mentored him - his rich dad). The lecture is humorous and enjoyable. The thing is that Robert stresses hard work but instead of trusting God he talks more about trusting in oneself. Whenever God is left out of the equation I think that there is a problem. In Christianity, the word of faith movement and doctrine teaches much of the same things - they just tack God on but devoid of his sovereignty and power. I suggest that listening to Kiyosaki is not a bad thing but you have your discernment turned as high as it can go.

YouTube - Creflo Dollar Says CHRISTIANS Have 2 YEARS LEFT To GET RICH! (wealth transfer/debt cancellation)
My wife recently asked me to find the proof that Creflo Dollar has preached a heretical error. It took me literally 5 minutes to find this (3 of which to boot up and log on to the Internet). The contention is that Dollar has claimed that because God promises his people riches that Jesus cannot return until all of God's people are rich. He went as far as trying to tell that Jesus will return by 2012. Where to start? I'm leary of anyone trying to tell us when Jesus will return. Second, Jesus said "The poor will be with you always." (Mark 14:7) Therefore we cannot interpret Proverbs 13:22 as saying that we must become rich if we will be righteous. This video does a great job discussing the subject.
