This recent post from John W. Loftus is timely. Apparently Robert M. Price wrote a book that has been recently released to refute Lee Strobel's The Case for Christ. What does it say about a book that is derided and it's author dismissed by opponents yet I can now name at least two book written to specifically refute it? I think it says that Strobel's book is far more dangerous to his opponents let on. I happen to like Robert Price although I disagree with almost everything I have heard him said. I think I would like to read Price's book because Earl Doherty's work in which he tried to do the same thing was really awful. I think Prices is smarter than he is. I find the timing of this post and the book interesting because Price is scheduled to debate James White this weekend! I'm expecting a blood bath where only only the mercy of God will be Robert Price's only saving grace.

Dr. Robert Price's Reason for Accepting the CRI Debate Challenge
As you may already know that Dr. James White is debating Dr. Robert M. Price very soon. This debate will be important because Price is one of the rare scholars who completely deny that all of scripture and just about all claims of Christianity, period. He must be answered because he's not a stupid, uneducated, ignorant, nor inarticulate by human standards. He's not even mean. He doesn't seem demonic at all. People like him seem to be reasonable and willing to discuss the issue. Thankfully in one of his most recent blog posts Dr White quotes Price about why he has accepted this debate and how he thinks of debates in general. I think that it is important that you read this post so you can see stupid a mind can become without God. Most importantly, Dr. White has given his own reasons for doing this debate and all the debates he engages in:
I listen to the Crossans and Ehrmans and Prices of the world not because I enjoy the exercise (I would much rather be listening to something uplifting and edifying), but because I seek to honor the truth, and the only way to do that is to do the work necessary to accurately represent your opponent in debate, for the benefit of the widest possible audience. So while Dr. Price will be seeking to "reach" only a small sliver of the audience in an attempt to push them over into agnosticism, I will be seeking to reach a much wider group: I wish to reach the unbelievers by demonstrating that the faith can stand in the presence of radical unbelief without compromise; I wish to reach the believers by modeling how they may provide an answer to those attacking their faith. And of course, another major difference between us is that Dr. Price has only the weapon of his own doubt to use. I have the Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, to make the truth to come alive in the hearts of His people.
I agree with Dr. White. Debates don't change everyone but it does help some people and it's a tool God uses.If only only one person is ultimately saved through a debate it is worth it,.

Interview with Robert Price and John Loftus
I found six videos on YouTube in which Robert M. Price and John W. Loftus are interviewed. It was very interesting. I like looking at people's testimonies. How did they get to the point of thinking the way they do? They are apostates. People who claim to have been believers and now disavow Christianity. Why? What made them change their minds? These interviews begin to answer these questions. I have to say that neither of these men are unlikeable. It's nice to see Loftus in a relaxed public appearance in which he is not trying to win an argument.
According to Loftus, he lost his faith because he could not reconcile the Genesis account with what he understood from science. As far as Price, he just seemed to say that he looked at the evidence and was no longer persuaded that they were true.
I find that I disagree. Not because I'm a Christian but because I know that you can come to many different conclusions based on what you expect to find. I'd like to see if Loftus ever talked to Hugh Ross or Jay Richards. Did he ever discuss it with William Lane Craig? I don't know. But there seems to be an arrogance that says "I don't understand it therefore it must be wrong."
As for Price. The man is likable. And I admire the fact that he is willing to say publicly that he knows that the majority of his peers disagree with him but sticks to his conclusions. I disagree with him, but at least he is consistent with himself.

Resurrection Debate: William Lane Craig vs Robert Price
Robert Price does not believe Jesus was resurrected or that the Bible is reliable or trustworthy. However he seems like a nice guy and can't so easily be dismissed as a writer or a debater. Price is wrong on quite a few points but at least he is consistently wrong. This is why I like this debate from 1999. William Lane Craig is an awesome scholar and a great debater. I think that Dr. Craig did a great job. James White will be debating Price coming up soon. He is reviewing this debate on his web cast March 23 and March 30. http://www.bringyou.to/CraigPriceDebate.mp3

Apologetics 315: Phil Fernandes vs. Robert Price Debate MP3 Audio - Is Jesus the Savior?
Here is a great debate from Apologetics 315. I think that this gave me more respect for Phil Fernandez. It took guts to go into such hostile territory: The Infidel Guy. The host was really biased towards Robert Price. Fernandez did great - clear and concise. Price does not believer the Bible is factually true. His arguments and Richard Carrier are similar. Price comes out nicely and he did not seem like horrible person. I found the whole thing very interesting. At the outset it seems like one who would deny Jesus' existence was crackpot, but Price is not easily dismissed. Price is wrong, but we can't just dismiss him. He twists scriptures and assumes that they can't be trusted.

Resurrection Debate: Gary Habermas & Mike Licona vs Robert Price
Here is a great discussion for Easter. The Infidel Guy & Robert M Price vs Gary Habermas and Mike Licona. It was fun seeing Price being challenged. Habermas does a marvelous job showing how many Price makes some horrible assumptions that makes it hard for him to understand what Christians are saying. Price is definitely on the fringe. Even most skeptical scholars accepts the Paul really wrote some of the stuff that we attribute to him and Price says Paul wrote none of them. Another thing that got me was he said that in Greek "Phileo" and "Agape" from John 21 are synonyms!!! I admit that I don't read Greek, but I have never heard anyone not make a difference between what those words really mean. It was really interesting.http://www.garyhabermas.com/audio/Infidel_Radio_01-17-07_pt1.mp3

Major Debate Announcement: Is the New Testament Historically Reliable? vs. Robert M. Price
James White has announced his upcoming debate against Robert M. Price. This one is going to be awesome! Price is often touted as a legitimate scholar who denies the historicity of not just the Gospels but most definitely denies that Jesus even existed. I have seen many refutations and I think Price has lots of problems. The great thing about this debate will be that we will get to see Price's arguments publicly declared, examined, and cross-examined. We will get to really take the issues and really scrutinize this. I wish I could be there personally, but I think I will watch/listen to the recording.
