“The Fatima Crusader” : True vs. Counterfeit Miracles | True Freethinker

Mariano Grinbank has posted a great article regarding Fr. Nicholas Gruner's contention that the miracle at Fatima was predicted by Jesus in Matthew 16. In short, I don't think we can say that. Mariano does a great job in explaining why Matthew 16 does not support Father Gruner.

Islam and Christianity A Common Word: The Virgin Mary, Hijab and the Muslim Woman.

thegrandverbalizer posted an article defending the tradition of women covering their heads.  He refers to 1 Corinthians 11:4-16 but only quotes vs 4-6. Let's look at the whole passage:

4 Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. 5 But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is the same as having her head shaved. 6 For if a woman does not cover her head, she might as well have her hair cut off; but if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, then she should cover her head.

7 A man ought not to cover his head,[a] since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. 8 For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; 9 neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. 10 It is for this reason that a woman ought to have authority over her own[b] head, because of the angels. 11 Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. 12 For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God.

13 Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14 Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, 15 but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. 16 If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice—nor do the churches of God.

The Bible is clear - there is no Biblical mandate for women to cover their heads! Of course there is nothing wrong with a woman covering her head, but the Bible says that it's up to us to decide. Let your culture be your guide as to what women wear when they pray.

Iron Sharpens Iron: James R. White: The Assumption of Mary: An Analysis of the Recent Debate with Robert Sungenis

It is always great to hear what debaters think after a debate. James White was interviewed on Iron Sharpens Iron on his debate against Robert Sungenis regarding the bodily assumption of Mary. I listened to the debate last week and I think Dr. White more than proved his point. There is no Biblical nor historical reason to believe that Mary went to heaven bodily. You also cannot prove anyone in the first 4 centuries believed it - let alone taught it. This is a great interview!

Asking the Wrong Marian Questions ...

TurretinFan posted a great article discussing if there are really is an exaltation of Jesus' mother Mary to rival God. I think he explains very well how this is done and that we should not do it!

Iron Sharpens Iron: Andrew Mayfield: Marian Apparitions

Anderw Mayfield was recently interviewed on Iron Sharpens Iron. It was great. He talked about the Marian apparitions that so many people are hanging their hopes on. He points out that the things that are being spoken through these apparitions directly contradict the Bible. This is a great interview and worth listening to.

Roman Catholic Maryology: Mary in Roman Catholicism, part 2 - Everything the Bible Says About Mary | True Freethinker

Mariano has continued his great series on how Mary - the mother of Jesus Christ - is viewed in Christianity. In this article he covers just what the Bible has to say about Mary.

At a glance:
Reading everything that the Bible has to say about Mary it is very clear why the Roman Catholic Church must combine Scripture, plus tradition, plus apparition messages. Because taking into consideration everything that the Bible does say about Mary it is utterly impossible to even imagine a Mary who is immaculately conceived, sinless, co-redeemer, assumed into heaven and crowned queen of heaven, intercessor, our mother, etc., etc.

Christian Apologetics - Life and Doctrine: Roman Catholic Church: Our Lady of Guadalupe – Officially or Unofficially the Goddess of the Americas?

Our Lady of Guadalupe.Image via Wikipedia
This is so important to share. I'm so glad that Mariano posted this article. He does a great job in discussing Maryology and talking about what the Lady of Guadalupe is and what did she say. I would like to comment on the quote:

I wish that a temple be erected here quickly, so I may therein exhibit and give all my love, compassion, help, and protection, because I am your merciful mother, to you, and to all the inhabitants on this land and all the rest who love me, invoke and confide in me; listen there to their lamentations, and remedy all their miseries, afflictions and sorrows. And to accomplish what my clemency pretends…that here on this plain a temple be built to me…Be assured that I will be most grateful and will reward you, because I will make you happy and worthy of recompense for the effort and fatigue in what you will obtain of what I have entrusted….[fourth apparition] Am I not here, who is your Mother? Are you not under my protection? Am I not your health? Are you not happily within my fold?
Here is my question: How would the Mary of the Bible say any of this? Whoever was seen at Guadalupe is glorifying herself not God and the glory that is being asked is worship.

The real Mary said:

"I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her. - Luke 1:38

He Lives: Mary, once a virgin always a virgin?

19th century painting of Our Lady.
This is a great post! My two cents is that Mary's perpetual virginity is just Roman Catholic dogma that cannot be supported by the Bible. The gospels clearly say that Jesus had brothers and sisters trying to make them cousin or half-siblings from a previous marriage of Joseph is nothing but an attempt to keep Mary a virgin after the birth of Jesus.

Yes, I think it would have sucked to have Jesus for a br0ther at time - constantly seeing him be perfect and all, I think that Jesus experienced what it truly means to be humble and submit to his parents. I don't think they truly understood, while he was growing up who He was. If they understood they would not have mocked him or thought he was an embarrassment

John 7:5 says
For even his own brothers did not believe in him.

No, i think that to his siblings, Jesus was just their big brother. We know Jesus submitted to Joseph and Mary. He did all the jobs and chores the oldest son was supposed to do. Instead of literally lording himself over others he served others.

To me the final nail in the coffin showing that Mary's perpetual virginity is dead and should be buried is the fact that Mary was Joseph's wife and she was obligated to give herself to him sexually. No way around that. I don't care how pious and humber Joseph was there are certain things a man demands of his wife.
