This is an interesting video where people who believe in flat earth are interviewed in why they believe the earth is flat. Turns out that they aren't all stupid...some are just looking for meaning in existence.
The thing that amazed me was that some people seemed to think that the thought that we live in a meaningless universe without purpose is connected to the earth being round. I don't understand that at all. The ideas are not connected. We can be living on a round earth following the science we currently observe without existential crisis - but with only knowing that there is a God. I disagree that a round earth leads to the philosophical conclusions given by many atheists like Richard Dawkins.

You know, the more I think of it, the more I think Christians--especially of the evangelical kind--argue in the same way as flat earthers. Read through that second link. See any parallels? I do.
I think that equating people who think the earth is flat with people who believe the Bible is stupid. In the case of the flat earth we have plenty of contradictory evidence showing that the earth is spherical. In the case of the Bible and especially in the case of the Resurrection - there is zero proof that conclusively disproves them no matter what you choose to believe. Definitely the kind of facepalm worthy statement I've come to expect from Loftus and at least he has something in common with God - he never disappoints either.
As for the need of an adequate theodicy, I agree with Dr Parsons. However the Bible gives more than an adequate theodicy.
I got a link to this post from John Loftus. The post is on Edward T. Babinski. I think that this article is important. However I disagree with Babinki's points being argued. It proves that many Christians throughout history, beyond any shadow of a doubt, believed in a flat earth in a geocentric universe. So what? They were fallible human beings that were wrong. What Babinski attempts to do is to suggest that those Jews and Christians who were flat earthers and geocentric in their cosmology because the Bibles gives a wrong description of the universe. He fails to show how the Bible messes up real cosmology - he merely kept stating it. I'm not going to go through stating the Bible verses that show the universe is not geocentric and that the earth is not flat because I have blogged them before as has many others showed this over and over for centuries!
