The Debt Limit Explained - YouTube

Want a clear and unbiased explanation of the financial crisis America is in? Well this video ain't that, but it is a good starting place to understand how the executive and legislative branches of the federal government have screwed up our finances. The video is clearly biased against congress but give it a look anyway.

Pious Bologna:Republicans, Ronald Reagan, & Revisionist History

I think that this particular post is timely, give the rhetoric I keep hearing Republican Presidential hopefuls trying to invoke Regan like some magic formula or some thing or other. This post is well worth checking out especially since it includes the following chart of how much the National Debt increased during the administrations of all the Presidents since Regan. It says a lot.

Still want the good ole days, Mr Newt Gingrich?

Obama’s War on Religion | Claude Mariottini - Professor of Old Testament

Official photographic portrait of US President...
Image via Wikipedia
Dr Claude Mariottini has posted some very interesting thoughts about President Obama's record on protecting religion in the United States during his term. I think it's worth reading. However I think we might be saying the same thing about anyone who had been elected in 2008, given the current political climate going against traditional Christianity.

John Boehner’s “Obama Diss”: Obstructionism, Racism, Or One In The Same?

Here is a really good article reflecting on how the Republicans are treating the President. House Speaker, John Boehner, has shown profound disrespect. If you can't respect the man, at least respect his elected position. It's one thing to dislike a man because of his opinions and policies but I think it goes deeper than that.

History Collided When Ruby Bridges Met Barack Obama (Video) - The Snob Blog - Danielle Belton's The Black Snob

Imagine changing the history of a nation. Now imagine doing it at 6 years-old.When she was 6 yrs-old Ruby Bridges was the little girl at the center of the landmark civil rights case which desegregated public schools - Brown vs Board of Education.

Jakes Blasts Franklin Graham for Obama Comments

Official presidential portrait of Barack Obama...                                      Image via WikipediaOne complaint some white conservative commentators decry that when they criticize Barack Obama they get labeled as racist, stupid rednecks. Of course that's because they say stupid, racist rednecked things about a Obama. For example, trying to argue that Obama is a Muslim or not really born in America or that implying that all his accomplishments were because of affirmative action is just stupid and desperate. However when black people criticize Obama they are called "jealous" or "traitors".  However, although I respect President Obama, he is not the Messiah, he's just a man. Brilliant? Yes. Perfect? No. He is no less a Christian than any other American who hasn't been born-again and doesn't consider the Bible infallible. Does that make him a liar? No but it does mean he needs to get saved.

Look at the following speech where he definitely doesn't look at scripture the way born-again Christians look at the Bible.

FacePalm of the Day #79 - Pamela Geller, WND: An illegitimate child, an illegitimate president - Atlas Shrugs

Pamela Geller wrote this really insane article spinning the information I had just posted today about the records of President Obama's father's immigration records in a way that is just really stupid.
It is interesting to note that BHO I claims in the documents to have divorced first wife, Kezia, "verbally." According to the Shariah, a man can divorce his wife by repeating it three times. Further, when BHO I returned to Kenya, he apparently lived with his first Kenyan wife and his American third wife, suggesting that the "divorce" he ostensibly secured to marry Dunham was a transitory ruse.
Dumb! There is no proof of that. In ancient Judaism, Divorce was not much more elaborate than this wither to be considered legal. The other article I posted about on this issue explicitly explains that by 1964, Obama Sr said that he and the President's mother had been divorced.

That would make the president illegitimate. In 1787, illegitimate children had different rights. There is no way the founders of this great nation intended for an illegitimate child of a foreign bigamist to attain the highest, most powerful position in the new land.
Um...nope! How dare she imply that people born out of wedlock deserve less right than people who were conceived by married parents. This is simply wrong. Since when has the United States legally ignores marriages and divorces just because they were in another country. Who says that 1787 laws are still in effect today. If they were then the President's father could have been executed for looking at a white woman let alone marrying a white woman.

All this means that President Barack Hussein Obama is not natural born. His father was not a U.S. citizen; he is, by that very fact, disqualified to serve as president of the United States. Those who believe that the "natural born" requirement is no longer relevant in our modern age are wrong. The Founding Fathers added this to the requirements for someone serving as president to make it difficult for a spy or traitor to attain the highest office in the land. Clearly, from Obama's performance, this is a considerable cause for concern.
How does that conclusion follow. Just because a person's parents are not U.S Citizen does not mean that a person born on U.S. soil is not a citizen. This truly an epic failure in logic. Racism makes people do and think really stupid things.

American-Born President of America Proves He's American - The Snob Blog - Danielle Belton's The Black Snob

I don't agree with everything Danielle Belton writes on her blog but on many things she is right about. This is one of them.

Since forever, certain folks (aka "Birthers") could not accept the shocking reality that a Kenyan-born man and a Kansas-born teenager could get together on American soil, do the do and then have a baby in the 50th state of Hawaii and have that actual baby be a natural born citizen. They have said that if Obama would just release his long-form birth certificate they would stop sounding overtly racist and go back to reading Ron Paul newsletters or sniffing around Texas-based grassy knolls. But now that Obama has done it, do we really believe these people will shut up?

No, I don't think so.

Richard Carrier Blogs: Is Obama a War Criminal?

Heavens to Betsy!!!! I actually agree with Richard Carrier on something!!!! I'm shocked and happy that he chose to speak out condemning the nonsense that President Obama should be considered a war criminal. I don't agree with everything Obama says and does but I think something had to be done to stop the slaughter of people in Libya. One might even argue that using military force was the best option, but if it wasn't what would have been? I don't know. I liked how Mr Carrier pointed out that Obama's action was not unconstitutional and as I have pointed out in a post of my own other Presidents have done the same thing. I recommend this post because it's well done and articulated well. The one point I have a problem with is that Carrier said that there was nothing we could have done in Rwanda or Bahrain. What about Darfar? I think there must have been something more we could have done to save lives. It's easy to sit back and judge those decisions not having been there and judge who to save and who to let die. I'm sorry but I really think that economics and racism has played a part in making those decisions through out American History. Carrier wrote:
It was thus absolutely necessary for Obama to tip the scales away from Qadaffi's success (it will be a disaster for us if he wins--we need him to fail, in every conceivable sense of the word). Who succeeds him is irrelevant, even if its someone ambivalent or hostile to the U.S. That's because we have bigger interests here: as long as the precedent is not established that Qadaffi's methods will go unhindered and unpunished, and as long as the precedent is set instead that America supports the democracy trend raging through the whole region even when we aren't assured of gaining an ally (and that we will not support, even by acquiescence, any anti-democracy regime's use of violence--not even in Bahrain, where we are otherwise helpless), then the entire balance of power in the region is shifted in America's favor, which will be a great benefit to us in the long run. Because an anti-American party elected into power today will, if democracy is sustained, be voted out eventually. In fact, that's the only way the region ever can move forward toward better relations with the U.S. We need democracy in the region. And we will not have it if we sit idly by and let Qadaffi holocaust his own citizens, and then, by extension, any other ruler who will take the hint and do the same, knowing we'll do nothing about it.

I have to agree with his assessment of why we had to intervene in Libya. The question I have is what about all the precedents where the United States did indeed sit idly by and let ____  holocaust his own citizens, and then, by extension, any other ruler who will take the hint and do the same, knowing we'll do nothing about it.? For there have been many. I don't really have answers for how to do this. It's got to be on a case-by-case basis - true - but who do you save and who do you sacrifice on the altar of American interests? What happens when we have to give an account for that?'

Truth is that Obama is not a war criminal. We live in an age where people make truly stupid judgments without really knowing what they talk about. This is a case in point and Richard Carrier has written a post explaining how stupid mistaken Obama's critics have been, at least on this point. Obama doesn't just get a pass, we need to keep examining his policies just like any other President. Again, he is just a man, whom I would assume, is just trying to do the best job he can. So how should Obama respond to sheer stupid and idiotic comments offered against him? The FacePalm. You can disagree with Obama without being racist or Stupid.

Here is a clip from the Daily Show that was mentioned in Carrier's post:

FacePalm of the Day #69 - Libya vs. Iraq

I was pointed to the following video by my brother-in-Christ, Mariano Grinbank. I appreciate him calling it to my attention. It definitely invites a facepalm but not because it is full of lies or offers a completely erroneous viewpoint, but because of dismay that it brings up a real good point.

Unfortunately we have many people on polarized opposite views. And some people are being labeled as being racist just because they disagree with President Obama.

A. People who hate President Obama because of his race and desire to discredit him by whatever means he can.
B. People who support anything President Obama says either because they believe the hype without any critical thinking or because they are afraid of being called "racist".
C. People who disagree with President Obama's policies and decisions not because he is black but just because they think they are poor ideas.
D. People who agree with President Obama because they think he is making good decisions.

I can respect C and D but not A or B. During the Election, the media seemed to go out of its way to either demonize Obama or portray him as some kind of Messiah sent to save us from the Tyranny of George W. Bush. I think this is unfair. I didn't like or agree with much of Bush said or did and yes, I questioned his sanity and intelligence, but to be completely fair I can't says that he acted any worse than any other President in my lifetime. I'm a black man. It was a big deal to have a black President when I didn't think I would ever see such a thing in my life time or my children's lifetime - if ever. I have always been uncomfortable with the idea of Obama being looked at as some kind of Messiah - who is smarter, nicer, more honest, and more trustworthy - to save America. There is only one Messiah. Obama is not his name. But in our euphoria, it seems to me like a lot of black folk forgot that. There seems to be this desire to avoid stating the obvious: Barack Hussein Obama is a capable American politician - not the "second coming". He isn't really all that much different from the national politicians that are democrats, other than he happens to have had a father who was born and raised in Africa and was black. That is not really a terrible thing, but we can't seem to do better. The other extreme is just as silly: President Obama is not the Anti-Christ. He is just as secular and just as "Christian" as most of the Presidents we have had in the past several decades. On one hand this is something I hate, but I can't be mad, Obama made his position on religions crystal clear...and we voted him anyway.

As for the points raised in the video, I think the video is a little too critical of President Obama and praises Bush a little too much. However, it truly dismays me that people are not really looking at what's happening in Libya and not asking why is it okay for Obama to intervene but it was wrong for Bush to intervene in Iraq? If we can't answer that question then I think, as the video shows, we have as problem. I also thought that comments left on the video very interesting. Some of them point out some fundamental facts about how Iraq's situation is different than the one in Libya. I agree with them, but it still doesn't really explain why Obama is correct and Bush was wrong. I mean so what if Obama did not get congressional approval to bomb Libya? Bush didn't have it either when he started moving. So what if Obama hasn't used ground forces in Libya? We still have American in harms way and if this escalates we know American ground troops will be used. Face it, what President hasn't used troops without Congress declaring war since WWII? All of them.

Some people say that we should not have intervened in Libya or Iraq. I'm not sure about that. I think that we need to be honest about why we do what we do, and not claim it's solely humanitarian because we don't intervene everywhere and there is genocide and human civil right violations happening all over the world and we do nothing about it. Libya and Iraq have strategic and economic importance of higher priority than Sudan or Rwanda. It's more about dollars and cents than it is about racism but we can't pretend that racism has nothing to do with it.

Again the facepalm is invoked because we have people spouting ignorant rhetoric without really thinking about what they are saying and supporting and when someone tries to reasoned and logical questions, it is like talking to a wall.

Obama Critics, Out of Ideas, Call First Lady "Fat" - The Snob Blog - Danielle Belton's The Black Snob

When you can't demolish an opponent for his/her ideas or actions what do you do? You go after his/her spouse. What if you can't deal any dirt about the spouse what do you? Make fun of them. Danielle Belton has posted an article about how people have been calling Michelle Obama fat, although she isn't fat and it seems because they can't find anything mean or nasty to say without tipping off how racist they are. I liked how Ms Belton phrased the end of her post

It doesn't matter what she does. It'll be wrong because she'll still be doing it while black, the most wrongest thing in the history of America. After all, as the quote my mother likes to repeat says, "We were brought here to work and entertain." Every day upon which Michelle Obama adorns herself in finery and does whatever the hell she wants is a giant "screw you" to the slavery industrial complex. She was supposed to be poppin' out babies and pickin' cotton. Not having State Dinners and wearing couture and trying to help our fat-ass kids shed some pounds. The nerve!
BACK OF THE BUS, First Lady! BACK OF THE BUS!

I agree with her. The sad thing is that many of the Obama's detractors don't even understand what they are doing.

THE INTERSECTION | MADNESS & REALITY: Pastor James David Manning: Obama Has Neutered and Weakened the White Man

Yes, I've got to admit Eco.Soul.Intellectual has called this video correctly:

Just when you thought you have heard it all, here comes this pastor. Amen and pass the bottle of Boone's Farm, Uncle Ruckus of The Boondocks is not only real, but he has a congregation. And, has a helluva pep talk for white folks in America in this installment. No seriously, white folks, pay attention OK?

Unfortunately, this person is serious. The things he says truly scares me, ever since I heard the truly ignorant things he said about Barack Obama I first heard in 2008.
