David Wood asks and answers a really great question in a recent post: Why is it okay for the New York Times to publish the following ad:

But not okay to publish this one:

David writes:

 Not surprisingly, the New York Times refused to publish the ad (at the moment, anyway), claiming that “the fallout from running this ad now could put U.S. troops and/or civilians in the [Afghan] region in danger.”

In other words, the New York Times will run an ad against Catholicism because Catholics won't go on a killing spree. But the Times won't run an ad critical of Islam because Muslims will go on a killing spree.

Answering Muslims: U.S. Department of Defense Unveils New Quran Sensitivity Training Program

David Wood has posted the slides the Department of Defense may be using new Quran Sensitivity training. David observes:

Hmmm. "We will hold sacred the beliefs held sacred by others." And here I thought the First Amendment guaranteed our right to freedom of religion. Now we find out that we MUST hold Islamic beliefs "sacred." Sharia is sacred to Muslims. The belief that Muhammad is a prophet is sacred to Muslims. The superiority of Islam is sacred to Muslims. It seems that if Muslims hold slaughtering unbelievers, killing apostates, beating wives, raping women, and sex with prepubescent girls "sacred," we must do the same.

I see his point. there is indeed a inconsistency.

Remember the case of the Muslem in Pennsylvania who assaulted an atheist who was dressed as "zombie" Muhammad? Well "justice" has been served. The Muslim will not be punished.
David Wood observed:

Judge Mark Martin dismissed charges against a Muslim named Talaag Elbayomy, who physically attacked an atheist dressed as Muhammad. In ruling against the atheist, Judge Martin sent a double message: (1) criticism of Muhammad will not be tolerated, and (2) assaulting critics of Muhammad will be tolerate.

I think that this is sad and truly a step backward. This is America. You have the right to say almost anything you want - even if it's offensive and stupid. If religious people have the right to express their beliefs than so should atheists have the same right - despite them being wrong.

Answering Muslims: Hezbollah Using Prostitution (Muta) for Recruitment

David Wood posted the following video from the YoungTurks' YouTube channel. I've read about the "Muta" concept in the past. I'm not really surprise that Hezbollah would use it as a recruiting tool. I think it's important to realize that not all Muslims agree with this stuff, just like not all Christians would condone some of the actions that people have done in the "name of Christ". I don't think Hezbollah does not speak for the majority of Muslims who live in Europe or America, but I have to wonder which flavor of Islam would have been endorsed by the prophet Muhammad?

Answering Muslims: Islam and Slavery

Here is something that is controvertible: Advocating and condoning slavery is not Biblical. The fact the some "Christians" have been slave holders and slave traders does not mean Christianity is wrong. By the same token that some Muslims have done the same doesn't mean that Islam is false. Islam is false for other reasons. That being said, it's pure silliness for Muslims to pretend that the part of Muslims in the slavery trade - past and present - is not a reality.

Image via WikipediaDavid Wood has posted information that I was not aware of: an atheist has been attacked by a Muslim for wearing a costume that mocked the prophet Muhammad. David wrote:

No one would blame a Muslim for being offended at a "Zombie Muhammad" costume, just as no one would blame a Catholic for being offended at a "Zombie Pope" costume. But we do object to people becoming physically violent over their disagreements. In this case, a Muslim attempted to choke an atheist who was mocking Muhammad. Why would the Muslim get violent? Because Islam promotes violence towards people who mock Islam.

No real surprise there given many Muslims consider any physical depiction of any kind offensive. Yes, the costume was in poor taste and offensive, but in this country you have the right to say almost anything you want, even if it is stupid The man should not have been choked for just wearing a costume that shows how ignorant he is. Letting him wear it would have been punishment enough.

I want to know why when Christians speak out, the cry comes out that there must be a separation of church and state and the state should not encourage one religion over another. Yet, it subsidizes insulting Christianity yet protects Islam. Really inconsistent.
