Quote of the Day: Jonathan Edwards

Here is what I cannot reconcile. How can a man like Jonathon Edwards see so much truth. Everything in this quote is TRUE. He hit it. I see no way to disput anything he said here. Yet how can he believe that people a Christian should admit his/her sin and yet still be a slave holder and deny the humanity of others. Every human being should be looked at the way Edwards is saying we should. It's Biblical. How could he miss it? WE all have blind spots. Me included. Especially me. It sure is a sobering warning.

🔥 The Nine Angelic Choirs: A Journey Through the Celestial Hierarchy

Christian theology offers one of the most complex and awe-inspiring portrayals of the cosmos—not only in its account of humanity, but in its depiction of the angelic hosts that surround and serve God. These heavenly beings are divided into nine distinct choirs, grouped into three triads. Rooted in Scripture and elaborated upon by theologians like Thomas Aquinas and Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite, these choirs help us grasp the structured and purposeful nature of the divine order.

🌟 First Triad: The Contemplatives Closest to God

These angels exist in the immediate presence of the Divine, absorbed in perpetual worship and understanding of God's majesty.

1. Seraphim

  • Description: Fiery beings, often depicted with six wings and radiant intensity.
  • Role: Perpetually worship God, singing "Holy, holy, holy" (Isaiah 6:1–7).
  • Symbolism: Purity, love, and divine passion.
  • 🕊️ "Seraphim" means “burning ones,” reflecting their flaming devotion.

2. Cherubim

  • Description: Guardians with wings and multiple faces in some depictions.
  • Role: Protectors of sacred spaces and bearers of divine wisdom.
  • Biblical Roots: Guarded Eden (Genesis 3:24), formed part of the Ark of the Covenant (Exodus 25:18–22).
  • 🧠 Associated with God’s omniscience and insight.

3. Thrones

  • Description: Mystic wheels covered in eyes (see Ezekiel’s vision).
  • Role: Embody divine justice and carry the authority of God’s judgment.
  • Scripture: Ezekiel 1:15–21; Colossians 1:16.
  • ⚖️ They represent stability, balance, and governance.

👑 Second Triad: The Governors of Creation

This triad channels divine directives to manage the cosmos and angelic ranks.

4. Dominions

  • Description: Regal angels bearing scepters or orbs.
  • Role: Delegators who oversee lower angelic orders and maintain heavenly order.
  • Scripture: Ephesians 1:21; Colossians 1:16.
  • 🛠️ Known for clarity, leadership, and command.

5. Virtues

  • Description: Graceful figures radiating tranquility and healing.
  • Role: Bestow blessings and perform divine miracles.
  • Biblical Echo: Often linked with the powers of Christ (1 Peter 3:22).
  • ✨ They inspire earthly virtue and courage in trials.

6. Powers

  • Description: Armored warriors with shields and swords.
  • Role: Defenders against demonic forces and evil.
  • Scripture: Ephesians 6:12 speaks of “powers” in spiritual warfare.
  • ⚔️ Associated with fortitude, protection, and discipline.

🕊️ Third Triad: The Messengers to Humanity

The final triad engages directly with earthly matters—nations, leaders, and individuals.

7. Principalities

  • Description: Crowned dignitaries with an air of majesty.
  • Role: Guide nations, governments, and institutions.
  • Scripture: Ephesians 3:10; Colossians 1:16.
  • 🏛️ They work to align world affairs with divine purposes.

8. Archangels

  • Description: Powerful leaders often wielding swords or trumpets.
  • Role: Deliver crucial messages and lead divine missions (e.g., Gabriel’s Annunciation, Michael’s spiritual battles).
  • Scripture: Daniel 10:13; Luke 1:26–38.
  • 📜 Their names signify roles: Michael (“Who is like God?”), Gabriel (“God is my strength”).

9. Angels

  • Description: Gentle guardians closest to humanity.
  • Role: Protect, guide, and communicate God’s will to individuals.
  • Scripture: Psalm 91:11; Hebrews 1:14.
  • 🤍 They are the personal messengers and helpers we often associate with divine aid.

  • The Holy Bible – primary references from Isaiah, Genesis, Exodus, Ezekiel, Colossians, Ephesians, 1 Peter, Daniel, Luke, Psalms, and Hebrews.
  • Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite, The Celestial Hierarchy – foundational Christian mysticism text detailing these orders.
  • Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologica – deep theological analysis and interpretation of angelic functions.

If you'd like a downloadable summary or visual infographic of these choirs, I can help format one for study or presentation. Let me know how you'd like to use this further, Marcus!
