Debunking Christianity: Did Paul Conceive of a Resurrected Body and if So Does this Change Anything?
WONDERS NEVER CEASE!!!! John Loftus actually posted a blog post that I largely agree with!!!!? Shock and Awe!!! God can really do anything!
It fills me with hope that John Loftus can really read a Bible passage and understand what it says even if he doesn't agree with it. Of course taking this stand means that he disagrees with Dr. Robert Price that Paul believed in a physical Resurrection. Price says he didn't. I agree with Loftus that he did. I see no way that one can honestly come form to Price's conclusions for the same reasons Loftus enumerates in his posts. The bottom line is that Paul did believe that Jesus rose bodily from the grave. Now there can be a discussion as to whether or not Jesus did.
Instead of nitpicking the article, let's look at the first comment from Samphire:
If God could call all of reality into existence, restoring a cremated body should be easy! Paul does not try to explain what a glorified body is in detail. Only that it was physical. I see nothing wrong with that. Oh and we do know what Peter thought of Paul's teaching!
Twisting Paul's letters into distorted lies is something I see often in our culture today.
Debunking Christianity: Did Paul Conceive of a Resurrected Body and if So Does this Change Anything?
At the very least what I do is grant for the sake of argument that Paul’s view was the transformation of the body of Jesus into an imperishable one, a supernatural one, but a body nonetheless, one that came from a mortal, perishable one. It was not a bodily resuscitation, nor was it probably a spiritual resurrection leaving his body still lying in the grave. This grants more than most skeptics or liberals will allow, I know. I want to take the best case scenario and see what follows. I don’t think it follows that Jesus bodily rose up from the grave.
Take a grain of wheat and burn it; grind up the carbon remaining and throw it in the sea. No new plant.
Take a christian (dead or alive) and burn it; grind up the carbon remaining and throw it in the sea. No new christian.
So is Paul just playing with words? Does his theology reflect itself in any reality?
We need some flesh of meaning on these dead bones of scripture. Even WLC doesn't seem to have a clue as to what a glorified body is. If there is any real meaning to what Paul was preacing surely after 2,000 years of discussion somebody should have some sort of clue. But it seems not.
And what did the Pillars think of Paul's teaching? There is not a single word on the subject in the epistles of James, John or Peter. What does that tell us?
If God could call all of reality into existence, restoring a cremated body should be easy! Paul does not try to explain what a glorified body is in detail. Only that it was physical. I see nothing wrong with that. Oh and we do know what Peter thought of Paul's teaching!
14 So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. 15 Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. 16 He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction. - 2 Peter 3:14-16
Twisting Paul's letters into distorted lies is something I see often in our culture today.

Facepalm of the Day #78 - Sam Harris on accommodationism - Sam Harris - The Moral Landscape - RichardDawkins.net
John Loftus has pointed on a particular post on Richard Dawkins' website. Dr Richard Dawkins has posted a response on Mooney thread commenting on a a couple of paragraphs from one of Dr. Sam Harris' books. Dawkins writes:
I point this out because Dawkins still does not understand what Biblical "faith" is. The Bible does not say that God rewards "conviction without sufficient reason, hope mistaken for knowledge, bad ideas protected from good ones, good ideas obscured by bad ones, wishful thinking elevated to a principle of salvation, etc." When I hear people spewing such ignorance, and refuse to be corrected, I find it nauseating. We have to keep explaining it. Hopefully one day, God will open such people minds so that they will understand Hebrews 11:1-2, finally.
No where does it say that it is wishful thinking, or hope in lieu of knowledge. Why constantly argue and debate against a position that Christians do not hold? Silly me, of course, the definition of faith Dawkins gives is the only one he understands.
Sam Harris on accommodationism - Sam Harris - The Moral Landscape - RichardDawkins.net
The first thing to observe is that Mooney and Kirshenbaum are confused about the nature of the problem. The goal is not to get more Americans to merely accept the truth of evolution (or any other scientific theory); the goal is to get them to value the principles of reasoning and educated discourse that now make a belief in evolution obligatory. Doubt about evolution is merely a symptom of an underlying condition; the condition is faith itself—conviction without sufficient reason, hope mistaken for knowledge, bad ideas protected from good ones, good ideas obscured by bad ones, wishful thinking elevated to a principle of salvation, etc. Mooney and Kirshenbaum seem to imagine that we can get people to value intellectual honesty by lying to them.

1 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for.

Beggars All: Reformation And Apologetics: NPR Picks up on Harold Camping
As May 21st approaches I expected more of the secular media to be talking more about Harold Camping and his ministry. His gall amazes me. He was wrong about 1994. There was no rapture. Why does he think (why does anyone think) this time will be different? Jesus said no one but the Father knows. That's good enough for me. Jesus did not tell us when He would return. He was clear. We don't need to waste time trying to figure out when. We just need to be ready. Instead of asking yourself when it will happen or if it will happen, we should be asking are we ready? I appreciate James Swan for pointing these NPR reports out.

Beggars All: Reformation And Apologetics: He Used to be a Christan...
James Swan has posted really good article about how the United Reformed Churches of North America deals with apostates. I agree with him when he wrote:
I think it's important to recognize that from a Biblical perspective we have only these possibilities to explain apostasy and hypocrisy. If the Bible is wrong then how do we know it's right about everything else? We don't and therefore everything is suspect. My own personal experience in talking to and watching apostates is that if they never repent and return to being committed to Christ, they were never really committed in the first place and was only going through the motions and doing it so well that they were deceived themselves and deceived others - but not God. I also like what James White had to say on this subject.

Are they non-believers, and always were? Even now, I don't know if they're in a deep period of rebellion against the faith, or are simply examples of seeds that fell on rocky soil.

Debunking Christianity: The Pastor Dave Schmelzer Interview
Pastor Dave Schmelzer interview John Loftus on his podcast. Check it out.
I found that the interview was interesting. I kinda got the following from Loftus conversion story. After being caught in adultery, he decided to check out if Christianity was true and decided that there was no evidence for it according to his studies. I'm not impressed. I can understand how embarrassing and painful it must have been to have your sins unveiled in such a public way. Unfortunately, church folks can be the most judgmental and critical, especially of their leaders. Loftus missed a tremendous opportunity. He could have truly known God in a really close way - in the forgiveness of his sin and know God in a deeper way than he had known him. I think that every Christian has had such moment(s) where you have to look at your life, repent, and re-double your efforts to get as close to God as you can. Seems to me that Loftus attempted to figure out how he could reject Christianity rather than face responsibility for his own sin.

Osama Bin Laden's death is big new -not just in America but all over the world. Topless Robot got this from TrekMovie.com:
Apparently Star Trek Killed Osama Bin Laden - Topless Robot
On Thursday, the German news channel N24 was covering the death of Osama bin Laden and how the US Navy's "SEAL Team Six" headed up the mission in Pakistan last Sunday. At one point N24 host Mick Locher showed off what he thought was the official emblem for SEAL Team Six [see above]. Locher even commented (translated from German) on the emblem:I got to admit...it does look like that. I can't tell if there was a mistake made or not but I like the logo.
And they also have the 'Team Six,' that carried out the mission. They don't have the skull in their emblem for nothing.Locher didn't seem to notice (or care) that the skull in question was from a Klingon and included a bolted-on eyepatch. He and N24 also appear undeterred by the emblem's inclusion of a phaser, 3 Klingon bat'leth swords and the word "Maquis." The original Maquis were a French resistance guerrilla group who (ironically) fought against German occupation in World War II. That group inspired the name for the Maquis seen in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, who fought against Cardassia in former Federation colonies.

Darth Vader Confirms Death of Obi-Wan Kenobi - G4tv.com
In the past few years there has been some interesting parallels drawn between Star Wars and the current politics and history of the United States. It has been lead to very humorous results. Today a great one was released. What if Darth Vader issued a statement about his killing Obi Wan Kenobi in Star Wars Episode IV. It's Hilarious.
The comments section is also hilarious!
Darth Vader Confirms Death of Obi-Wan Kenobi - G4tv.com
CORUSCANT — Obi-Wan Kenobi, the mastermind of some of the most devastating attacks on the Galactic Empire and the most hunted man in the galaxy, was killed in a firefight with Imperial forces near Alderaan, Darth Vader announced on Sunday.
In a late-night appearance in the East Room of the Imperial Palace, Lord Vader declared that “justice has been done” as he disclosed that agents of the Imperial Army and stormtroopers of the 501st Legion had finally cornered Kenobi, one of the leaders of the Jedi rebellion, who had eluded the Empire for nearly two decades. Imperial officials said Kenobi resisted and was cut down by Lord Vader's own lightsaber. He was later dumped out of an airlock.
The news touched off an extraordinary outpouring of emotion as crowds gathered in the Senate District and outside the Imperial Palace, waving imperial flags, cheering, shouting, laughing and chanting, “Hail to the Emperor! Hail Lord Vader!” In the alien protection zone, crowds sang “The Ten Thousand Year Empire.” Throughout the Sah'c district, airspeeder drivers honked horns deep into the night.
“For over two decades, Kenobi has been the Jedi rebellion’s leader and symbol,” the Lord of the Sith said in a statement broadcast across the galaxy via HoloNet. “The death of Kenobi marks the most significant achievement to date in our empire’s effort to defeat the rebel alliance. But his death does not mark the end of our effort. There’s no doubt that the rebellion will continue to pursue attacks against us. We must and we will remain vigilant at home and abroad.”
Obi-Wan Kenobi ’s demise is a defining moment in the stormtrooper-led fight against terrorism, a symbolic stroke affirming the relentlessness of the pursuit of those who turned against the Empire at the end of the Clone Wars. What remains to be seen, however, is whether it galvanizes Kenobi’s followers by turning him into a martyr or serves as a turning of the page in the war against the Rebel Alliance and gives further impetus to Emperor Palpatine to step up Stormtrooper recruitment.
In an earlier statement issued to the press, Kenobi boasted that striking him down could make him "more powerful than you could possibly imagine."
How much his death will affect the rebel alliance itself remains unclear. For years, as they failed to find him, Imperial leaders have said that he was more symbolically important than operationally significant because he was on the run and hindered in any meaningful leadership role. Yet he remained the most potent face of terrorism in the Empire, and some of those who played down his role in recent years nonetheless celebrated his death.
Given Kenobi’s status among radicals, the Imperial Galactic government braced for possible retaliation. A Grand Moff of the Imperial Starfleet said late Sunday that military bases in the core worlds and around the galaxy were ordered to a higher state of readiness. The Imperial Security Bureau issued a galactic travel warning, urging citizens in volatile areas “to limit their travel outside of their local star systems and avoid mass gatherings and demonstrations.”
The strike could deepen tensions within the Outer Rim, which has periodically bristled at Imperial counterterrorism efforts even as Kenobi evidently found safe refuge it its territories for nearly two decades. Since taking over as Supreme Commander of the Imperial Navy, Lord Vader has ordered significantly more strikes on suspected terrorist targets in the Outer Rim, stirring public anger there and leading to increased criminal activity.
When the end came for Kenobi, he was found not in the remote uncharted areas of Wild Space and the Unknown Regions, where he has long been presumed to be sheltered, but in a massive compound about an hour’s drive west from the Tatooine capital of Bestine. He had been living under the alias "Ben" Kenobi for some time.
The compound, only about 50 miles from the base of operations for the Imperial Storm Squadron, is at the end of a narrow dirt road and is roughly eight times larger than other homes in the area, which were largely occupied by Tusken Raiders. When Imperial operatives converged on the planet on Saturday, following up on recent intelligence, two local moisture farmers “resisted the assault force” and were killed in the middle of an intense gun battle, a senior Stormtrooper said, but details were still sketchy early Monday morning.
A representative of the Imperial Starfleet said that military and intelligence officials first learned last summer that a “high-value target” was hiding somewhere on the desert world and began working on a plan for going in to get him. Beginning in March, Lord Vader worked closely with a series of several different Admirals serving onboard the Death Star to go over plans for the operation, and on Friday morning gave the final order for members of the 501st Legion (known commonly as "Vader's Fist") to strike.
Kenobi and a group of his followers were eventually captured while fleeing the system, and taken aboard the Death Star, which was in the midst of surveying the recent environmental disaster on Alderaan. Darth Vader called it a “targeted operation,” although officials said four tie fighters were lost because of "mechanical failures" and had to be destroyed to keep them from falling into hostile hands.
In addition to Kenobi, two men and one wookiee were killed, one believed to be his young apprentice and the other two his couriers, according to an admiral who briefed reporters under Imperial ground rules forbidding further identification. A woman was killed when she was used as a shield by a male combatant, the Admiral said. Two droids were also reported missing.
“No Stormtroopers were seriously harmed,” Lord Vader said. “They took care to avoid civilian casualties. After a firefight, I defeated my former master and took custody of his body.” Jedi tradition requires burial within 24 hours, but by doing it in deep space, Imperial authorities presumably were trying to avoid creating a shrine for his followers.
Lord Vader has denied requests to present photographs of the body, describing them as "too gruesome" for the general public.

When a coloring mistake means much more
I think that it is important to consider how different groups of people are portrayed in the media. It's not just because it influences society. It is also because its a reflection of society just as much as it is an influence. I really think that this article from one of my favorite tumblrs should be read by everyone. In case you haven't heard this thread was touched off by Free Comic Book Day event last Saturday where DC Comics gave out a comic book with the following image.
Why is this a problem? Well it should have looked like this.
The girl on the right is mistakenly colored. She is a woman of color and one of the Flash's blood relatives. DC admits the mistakes. She should look like this.
It's not a little issue given to how women and minorities are portrayed in American mass media. We should be better than that. Read more about it at the following link.

The information superhighways are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the online vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the camwhores and trolls will look up and shout "STOP RUNNING THEGODDAMNMY LITTLE PONY VIDEOS!"
