Bring it::Question Evolution! Campaign

It's an amazing thing how people like to claim that they are free thinking and approach everything with "healthy" skepticism yet still willing to claim that macro evolution is an undisputed fact. Part of science is questioning all conclusions and presuppositions - testing them to see what is true. I think a good example is how for a hundred years it was considered a fact that the speed of light is constant in all reference frames, but now it's being called into question and researched more. I see nothing wrong with that, although I think we will still find that it is constant, but it doesn't hurt to look. Why is it so bad to question evolution? Why wouldn't you want to make sure it's correct? I mean if it's true, more research can only confirm it. Mariano has pointed to me to two links to web resources that brings up such questions and invite others to do the same. The first one can be found at

Question Evolution! Campaign

Use this link to find out all about the campaign. The campaign was also written up in an article over at Creation Ministries International. You follow this link to read it.
The article even has a list of questions that are being considered problematic to the theory of evolution.

15 Questions summary

Note to would-be evolution defenders: please read the full brochure and linked articles before attempting to answer the questions, otherwise you will likely be wasting your time boxing at shadows.
  1. How did life with specifications for hundreds of proteins originate just by chemistry without intelligent design?
  2. How did the DNA code originate?
  3. How could copying errors (mutations) create 3 billion letters of DNA instructions to change a microbe into a microbiologist?
  4. Why is natural selection taught as ‘evolution’ as if it explains the origin of the diversity of life?
  5. How did new biochemical pathways, which involve multiple enzymes working together in sequence, originate?
  6. Living things look like they were designed, so how do evolutionists know that they were not designed?
  7. How did multi-cellular life originate?
  8. How did sex originate?
  9. Why are the (expected) countless millions of transitional fossils missing?
  10. How do ‘living fossils’ remain unchanged over supposed hundreds of millions of years?
  11. How did blind chemistry create mind/intelligence, meaning, altruism and morality?
  12. Why is evolutionary ‘just-so’ story-telling tolerated as ‘science’?
  13. Where are the scientific breakthroughs due to evolution?
  14. Why is evolution, a theory about history, taught as if it is the same as the operational science?
  15. Why is a fundamentally religious idea, a dogmatic belief system that fails to explain the evidence, taught in science classes?
A lot of proponents of evolution admit that we don't have answers to these but they are confident that we will figure them out. In other words, they punt to faith.

There is even a video to go along with this campaign.

If anyone thinks they can answer these, please do. Bring it if you can.

The Muppets Are Communist, Fox Business Network Says

Here is proof that you can't believe everything broadcasted from Fox News. Eric Bolling actually accused the new Muppets movie of trying to indoctrinate kids against capitalism and push communism into their minds. Wait...it gets even more ludicrous:

"It's amazing how far the left will go just to manipulate your kids, to convince them, give the anti-corporate message," he said.

"They've been doing it for decades. Hollywood, the left, the media, they hate the oil industry," Gainor continued. "They hate corporate America. And so you'll see all these movies attacking it, whether it was 'Cars 2,' which was another kids' movie, the George Clooney movie 'Syriana,' 'There Will Be Blood,' all these movies attacking the oil industry, none of them reminding people what oil means for most people: fuel to light a hospital, heat your home, fuel an ambulance to get you to the hospital if you need that. And they don't want to tell that story."

And worse:

"This is what they're teaching our kids. You wonder why we've got a bunch of Occupy Wall Street people walking around all around the country, they've been indoctrinated, literally, for years by this kind of stuff," Gainor said. "Whether it was 'Captain Planet' or Nickelodeon's 'Big Green Help,' or 'The Day After Tomorrow,' the Al Gore-influenced movie, all of that is what they're teaching, is that corporations is bad, the oil industry is bad, and ultimately what they're telling kids is what they told you in the movie 'The Matrix': that mankind is a virus on poor old mother Earth."

Oh yes! I get it now! So according to Bolling Jamie Peck was wrong to write:

You heard right: the Occupy Wall Street movement was caused by Saturday morning cartoons. Corporate greed, lack of access to healthcare, and anger over having to pay for the fallout of mortgage backed securities fraud are but excuses to obey their one true fuehrer, a guy who only appears when all their powers combine.

*Snicker*

Pecker makes good points. Speaking as one who was raised on such programming, it wasn't Captain Planet that taught us that the world was broken by corporate greed. It was the oil spills, the lying, and cheating. The gap growing between rich and poor and the lie that if we go to school and work within the system we will get our piece of the American Dream. Not to mention all the lies in history class and way people oppressed in society. You can see watch Bolling in the following clip.

Outbreak! : History’s Deadliest Pandemics [infographic] | Daily Infographic

6And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8All these are the beginning of sorrows. - Matthew 24:6-8

Steven Pinker Argues That People Are Now Less Violent

Steven Pinker
Image by Better Than Bacon via Flickr
Dr Steven Pinker does not believe that human race is becoming more violent but instead argues that violence is decreasing. I think he's completely crazy. However he has arguments and has written papers and given lectures defending his position.

Here is a short presentation:

Here is a longer presentation:

I'm planning a longer response but in the meantime here is rebuttal to his conclusions.

Refuting Steven Pinker’s “A History of Violence” by Jonathan Shockley
Delusions of peace by John Gray

I think that this actually illustrates a passage in the Old Testament
13 “From the least to the greatest, all are greedy for gain; prophets and priests alike, all practice deceit. 14 They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. ‘Peace, peace,’ they say, when there is no peace. 15 Are they ashamed of their detestable conduct? No, they have no shame at all; they do not even know how to blush. So they will fall among the fallen; they will be brought down when I punish them,” says the LORD. - Jeremiah 6:13-15
Sure God was speaking to Jeremiah's contemporaires but it sure matches today also.

FacePalm of the Day #148 - Debunking Christianity: A Jealous God and Divine Domestic Violence

John Loftus posted the following quote and link:

If a human husband said that to his wife, we would classify it as domestic violence. And rightly so. It reflects a view of the wife as property, and the husband as her lord and owner with sovereign rights to inflict punishment on one who has “stolen” from him his exclusive right to “sow his seed” in a “field” that is his property....Presumably an image of God who would himself commit assault and battery against his wife is one that it is crucial to examine critically and rethink. Link.

It refers to the following picture:

I'm all for re-examining critically anything that leads to Domestic Violence. Domestic Violence needs to stop. God don't like. Neither should we. However you cannot correctly connect Domestic Violence with God's mandate to worship only him. There are several problems:

1. A husband and wife are equal to one another.and neither is ontologically inferior to the other.
2. A wife is not her husband's property - and the Bible does not say she is.
3. Would this be just as disturbing if it was a wife saying it to her husband as it is a husband to his wife?  It's say "Yes" but it's unfortunate that adultery doesn't carry with it the shame and weight it used to. Is it right to execute someone for adultery? Yes, but not just the woman - both of them. We don't do it now because we have grace and mercy. But no one can tell me adultery is good with all the broken homes and lives left in its wake. Children's children are still dealing with the consequences of adultery years past. Imagine all the social problems we wouldn't have if people would just stick to their own spouse.
4. We belong to God. His command to only worship his isn't because he's jealous of  anyone. He is jealous for us. There is a difference.  He made us. He takes care of us. If you provide all the needs you are supposed to provide for your spouse, don't you expect them to not share their time, resource, or body with anyone else that belong to you? I do. Why shouldn't God?
5. It's even more pronounced with God. We owe him not only just for our creation but our own continued existence. That is what Christianity really teaches.
6. Let's use the Bible's full parallel to how God actually acts as a husband reacting to the  adultery of his wife. Does God break her neck?  No. But if I were treated the way he is, I'd be very hard not to. What we have done to God when we worship other gods is the same thing as a married person leaving their spouse, who has done  everything them, and choosing to become a drug-addled prostitute working for an abusive pimp. Read the book of Hosea and put your name in the place of  "Gomer"., You can have the same ending Gomer did too. God is offering it to you.
8. Going to hell is not equivalent to having your neck broken. Recall that Christian theology teaches that you can only die once. If you do indeed cheat on God, death will be the least of your concerns.
7. The Bible is very clear about who owns who in a marriage.

3 The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. 4 The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife. 5 Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.- 1 Corinthians 7:3-5
